The “Study of Beings” quest in Hogwarts Legacy introduces you to the system of caring for magical creatures. Professor Howin will conduct an introductory lesson where you will learn the basic skills of animal care.

How to get to class

The Magical Creatures Care Room is located in the Bell Tower Wing of Hogwarts. Go there to start the lesson. In class, you will meet Professor Howin and Hufflepuff student Poppy Sweeting (if you belong to another house and have not met her before).

Mastering care tools

After the introductory video, you will receive an Animal Brush, a key item for caring for creatures. Follow these steps:

StageAction
1Assign the brush to the spell slot according to the prompts on the screen.
2Equip the tool and clean the fluffy creature in front of you
3Assign the pet food to the slot in the same way
4Feed the furry friend

Poppy will then take you to the enclosure with the knizls. Here, you will need to repeat both procedures—clean and feed any knizl using the previously assigned tools.

End of lesson and additional tasks

After class, talk to Professor Hovin. She will tell you about additional assignments that she will be giving out in the future. When the professor leaves, Poppy will call out to you — go over to her. She will thank you for protecting the animals from the bullies and suggest going to the forest to introduce you to a special friend.

Encounter with a Hippogriff

Follow Poppy into the forest. After a while, she will call a hippogriff named Krylan. To establish contact with the creature:

  • Bow twice, following the on-screen prompts
  • Clean the hippogriff with a brush
  • Feed it

Helpful tip: The status of any creature is displayed by two diamond-shaped indicators below its name. The left diamond shows the need for cleaning, the right one shows the need for feeding. When both indicators are green, the animal is completely satisfied.
